First in Quality, First in Caring, First in Sharing

In an effort to learn best practices in community engagement activities and gain a clear understanding of how multicultural, religious and spiritual perspectives effect care options and caregiving actions, C-TAC collaborated with Interfaith and Diversity member and D.C. based, Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home.  Earlier this Fall we had the privilege of meeting with staff and caregivers for an afternoon of spirited conversation.  The experience was remarkable as we were able to see why Medicare.gov awarded this facility a 5 Star Rating and Remy Johnson won the District of Columbia Health Care Association’s 2013 Administrator of the Year.

Equipped with an iPhone and camera stand C-TAC staff captured video footage of available staff articulating the services and compassionate care they deliver everyday.  Recounting on memorable experiences, we immediately recognized this was a special place for those suffering from advanced illness.

Two interviews in particular presented a thoughtful perspective into the role and responsibilities of a caregiver.  Rev. Cabell and Rev. Carter shared their personal stories of what life was like caring for their wives dealing with chronic illness.   Listening to these gentlemen was a tremendous learning experience as we discussed the importance of advanced care planing, tapping into the power of Church congregations as support networks in the form of a “spiritual buddy system,” and caregiving for a loved one among other significant issues.  Each story revealed the richness of love, honor and dignity when caring for a loved one to ensure their care needs are addressed.

The links below feature Rev. Cabell and Rev. Carter’s interviews.  We hope you enjoy their stories as much as we did capturing them!
